Clarion marine head units are known to be some of the most durable out there. I was excited for the bluetooth capability and updated technology. Upon receiving, installing and using the unit.. I knew that I had made a mistake. The technology is great.. yes.. but the interface is pure junk and has to do with the ridiculously large front control knob. This is the only.. ONLY way.. to control the deck. It's very sensitive and awkwardly large which makes trying to complete a task as simple as turning the volume up and down while the boat is moving in any kind of chop completely impossible. One little bump to any side and a random menu comes up and it's mess to get it back to the start just to change volume. Just to get to the bass/treble control you have to hold it down _just right_ in the middle, then scroll through menus.. hoping all the while that you don't bump it to one side and lose your place... But I recently purchased this item for my boat, I hate to bring the cd boxes and I like to use the ipod to listen to various genres of sounds. The only problem is, every Ipod I connect on the unit it does not read the ipod functions.... None of them, including the iphone. And the clarion support is terrible, you can't leave questions on the website, and only the dealer can answer the questions, some of them told me to buy ccipod cable that I would have no more trouble.. I did, and still am waiting for the functions to be read by the unit.. Unit sounds great, easy to operate and the remote works ok for line of sight use. The reason I gave it a 4 is that I wish the Ipod hook up was in the front instead of the back of the unit. I ended up running another USB cable from the back to a front panel I had to cut and mount. I also attempted to buy the adapter for XM and install on this, but, gave up when the programming didn't work etc. Took the XM box stuff back and purchased a Serius box, which plugged straight in and works great. |
